THIBODAUX, La. – Scoring six of the final seven points, Southeastern Louisiana clawed back to win a Southland Conference match against rival Nicholls, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 16-14, at Stopher Gym and extend its winning streak.
Southeastern (8-9, 3-1 Southland) took two of the first three sets, but the Colonels (7-7, 1-2 Southland) bounced back in the fourth to keep the match alive.
Nicholls rode the momentum to an early three-point lead in the final set, 4-1. The Lady Lions rallied to tie it up. The Colonels again built a three-point advantage, 13-10, but back-to-back errors pulled Southeastern within one.
Lizzy Low served up an ace, tying the set, but followed with a service error that gave Nicholls the ball for match point. A kill by
Baylee Laskoskie evened it out again and
Caroline Golden sealed the win with back-to-back aces to close it out.
Jodi Edo, a senior from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, led Southeastern with 13 kills, reaching double figures for the 10th time this season. Golden added 11 while
Sam Gomez and
Jolie Hidalgo, a freshman from Lafayette, Louisiana, each contributed nine more kills.
Laskoskie dished out 36 assists to aid the offense. Golden served up four of the Lady Lions' 10 aces, including the final two points of the match.
Karlee Wilkerson struggled on the attack but was a defensive stalwart. The sophomore from Springfield, Louisiana had a hand in six of the Lady Lions' 12 blocks, including a career-high five solo blocks.
Alexis Pratt led Southeastern with 17 digs and Hidalgo added a career-best 15 for good measure.
The Lady Lions have now won six of their last eight overall. They have won three straight for the first time since early in the 2015 season and three consecutive in conference for the first time since Oct. 24- Nov. 2, 2013.
