MONROE, La. –  The Southeastern women's soccer team scored five times in the first half led by two goals from freshman
Brogan Bernadas Friday afternoon against ULM as SLU (3-2-1) cruised to a 6-0 win on the road at the ULM Soccer Complex.
Â
Freshman
Jamie Raines and sophomore Jessie Cooper each scored their second goals of the season and seniors
Vanessa Arzaluz and
Payton Colson each scored a goal to add to the Lady Lions' offensive onslaught.
" It was good we scored early," said second year SLU head soccer coach Chris McBride. "We scored off of our first chance and that gave the team confidence for the rest of the game and we took off from there."
Â
Bernadas, a forward from Covington, Louisiana, scored just three minutes into the match on an assist from senior
Amber Marinero.
Â
In the 9
th minute, Bernadas, again, got free and knocked in her second goal on an assist from senior
Christina Cutura.
Â
Cutura, a forward from Pearl River, Louisiana, attempted seven shots and had two assists and leads the Southland Conference with 39 shots.
Â
SLU wasn't done by a long shot. In the 27
th minute, Raines scored on an assist from Arzaluz making it 3-0 Lady Lions.
Â
Southeastern continued their aggressive attack offensively. Colson scored on an assist from Cooper pushing it to a commanding 4-0 SLU lead.
Â
Less than a minute later, Arzaluz, a midfielder from Sacramento, California, got in on the fun when she scored her first goal of the season thanks to an assist from sophomore
Lexie Gundersen as the SLU lead ballooned to 5-0 at halftime.
Â
Cooper polished off the Lady Lions' offensive clinic with a goal in the 67
th minute on Cutura's second assist of the match.
Going into Friday's match SLU had scored just two goals in their previous two matches but the Lady Lions showed no signs of any offensive struggles against ULM.
" Every team has their ups and downs," said McBride. "For us right now I think we have been able to focus on the things that will help us get better and improve as a team through the good and the bad."
Â
SLU will go flying into their Southland Conference opener Friday, Sept. 14 at home against McNeese at 7 p.m.
