HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped its home opener Tuesday in straight sets to Tulane, 25-14, 25-12, 25-10, at the University Center.
 
In the first set, a kill by Sam Gomez (Mandeville, Louisiana) gave the Lady Lions (1-9) an early 4-1 advantage, but Tulane (9-3) rattled off nine consecutive points to take control.
 
The Green Wave jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set and never looked back. Up two sets to none, Tulane ran out to an 11-2 lead in the final set.
 
Southeastern, led in kills by Caroline Golden (Mandeville, Louisiana) and Elyssa Purcell (Alvin, Texas) with three each, turned in a negative attack percentage (-.010) in the match. Haley Baker dished out a team-leading seven assists.
 
Defensively, Gomez had a hand in two of the Lady Lions' three blocks and Lexie Torres (San Antonio, Texas) led the team with 10 digs.
 
Dayna Kern recorded 10 kills and Jenna Ibieta handed out 20 assists to pace the Green Wave offense, which clipped along a .363 pace.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to the court again Tuesday for a rematch with Southern at 6 p.m. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Lady Lions defeated Southern in four sets Aug. 25 at the Troy Invitational in Troy, Alabama. Following the rematch with the Lady Jaguars, Southeastern returns home to open Southland Conference play Sept. 22 against Incarnate Word.
