Lady Lions Drop Pair at Black Knights Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Black Knights Invitational, falling to Albany in the tournament opener, 25-20, 15-25, 25-18, 25-14, and then dropping straight sets to Hofstra, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20.

In the first match, Southeastern (1-4) recorded a better attack percentage than Albany, .227 to .226, but it was not enough to overcome the Great Danes (1-3).

Sophomore transfer Maddy Katchen tallied a career-high 11 kills, leading the Lady Lions in the opening match. Jo Simovic contributed nine kills and Elyssa Purcell added eight for Southeastern. Michelle Mirarchi dished out a team-high 20 assists. Haley Baker handed out another 16 assists. Katchen, Mirarchi and Tempestt Vaughn each served up an ace.

Sam Gomez, a sophomore from Mandeville, Louisiana, had a hand in four of the Lady Lions' six blocks.

Lexie Torres led Southeastern with 14 digs. Alexis Pratt and Mirarchi, with nine and eight digs respectively, were also key contributors on defense.

Hofstra's high-powered offense put away the Lady Lions in the day's second match, as the Pride (4-1) posted a .363 attack percentage over the course of three sets.
