Basketball opens Southland play; Track opens indoor campaign

HAMMOND, La.  – The Southeastern Louisiana basketball teams will open Southland Conference play, while the track and field squads open the indoor campaign to ring in 2019 during this week in Southeastern Athletics.
 
The Lions (4-9) will open league action with a marquee matchup on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., as the defending regular season champions travel to face reigning Southland Tournament champion Stephen F. Austin.
 
Also on Wednesday, the Lady Lions (5-6) host SFA at 7 p.m. in the University Center. Next Wednesday will also be a Cane's Challenge. If the Lady Lions score 50 or more points versus SFA, fans will be able to take their game ticket or student coupon to their local participating Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
 
Celica Sterling will be the Spotlight Player of the Game for Wednesday's SLU-SFA contest. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Baton Rouge native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
On Saturday, SLU will host Central Arkansas for the first Southland doubleheader of 2019 in the University Center. The women's game opens the twin bill at 1 p.m. with the men's game serving as the 4 p.m. nightcap.
 
Aminat Jubril will be Saturday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Lagos, Nigeria native courtesy of PRIDE.
 
Both of this week's men's games, as well as Saturday's women's basketball game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience, Radio FX and TuneIn Radio apps.
 
LionVision subscribers will be able to access a live video stream of both of this week's women's contest, as well as Saturday's men's game, at www.LionSports.net/watch. Wednesday's SLU-SFA contest will be available on ESPN+.
 
The Southeastern track and field teams will open their indoor schedule this week. The Lions and Lady Lions will be in Baton Rouge on Friday for the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational.
