Huskers Pull Away Early from Lions

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball fell to 25th-ranked Nebraska 87-35 Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

SLU (1-2) began the game with a good plan taking a 7-4 lead slowing Nebraska to a jump shooting team after five minutes. The Cornhuskers (2-0) came out of the media timeout in a full-court press and erupted on a 22-0 run to a 26-7 lead. Southeastern's Quinton Thomas ended the run with an offensive rebound. The Huskers, however, finished the half on a 26-7 run to make it 52-16.

James Palmer led the Huskers with 17 points followed by Glynn Watson with 16. Southeastern's Marlain Veal led the Lions with 10 points. Moses Greenwood had eight points and five rebounds and Ty Brewer added seven.

It was a tough night offensively for the Lions as they shot 15-for-56 from the field for 27 percent and committed 25 turnovers.

The Huskers shot 31-for-55 for 58 percent and has 21 assists on 31 field goals.

"We knew coming in that we had a tall task ahead of us tonight," said fifth year
Southeastern head coach Jay Ladner. "But I think we have gotten a lot out of these games (at LSU and Nebraska) because it has humbled and I think we needed that. We've got some guys that have been a part of the success we have winning the Southland Conference Title last year that I think at times are still living off what we did. And that's the point, that stuff is the past, last year and I would rather us get humbled early and learn."

The Lions will continue their tough road trip Tuesday night when they face Texas Tech (2-0). The Red Raiders (27-10 in 2017-18) advanced to the Elite Eight last year and have started this season with blow out wins over Mississippi Valley State and Incarnate Word.

Fans can listen to the play-by-play of Tuesday's game on 90.9 KSLU or online at LionSports.net on the men's basketball schedule page.
