HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana took the opening set in convincing fashion Saturday, but McNeese bounced back to claim the final three sets and a Southland Conference win, 16-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23, at the University Center.
 
The Lady Lions (2-18, 1-6 Southland) quickly jumped out to a 10-3 advantage in the initial set and then fended off a couple of attempts by McNeese (6-16, 4-3 Southland) to tie up the score.
 
A slow start by Southeastern in the second set allowed the Cowgirls enough of a cushion to maintain their early lead throughout and even up the match.
 
Two tight sets followed to close out the match.
 
Jodi Edo (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) led the Lady Lions with a career-best 13 kills. Maddy Katchen (Fox River Grove, Illinois) added eight more.
 
Haley Baker (Elkton, Maryland) handed out 25 assists and Michelle Mirarchi (Plano, Texas) dished out another 17 for Southeastern.
 
Lexie Torres (San Antonio, Texas) served up a pair of aces while Mirarchi and Alexis Pratt (Houston, Texas) each contributed one.
 
Sam Gomez (Mandeville, Louisiana) had a hand in five of the Lady Lions' eight blocks. Edo, Elyssa Purcell (Alvin, Texas) and Tempestt Vaughn (Beaumont) each played part in three.
 
Pratt turned in a team-high 15 digs while Caroline Golden (Mandeville) added another 13 to the defensive effort.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern embarks on a three-match road trip to Sam Houston State (Thursday), Abilene Christian (Oct. 20) and Southern Miss (Oct. 23).
 
The Lady Lions' final homestand of the season, which begins Oct. 27, features matches against Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.
