HAMMOND, La. – Propelled by an aggressive defensive performance, UIW edged Southeastern Louisiana in four sets, 25-13, 27-25, 20-25, 25-15, Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
The Lady Lions (2-13, 0-2 Southland) began the match by posting a .029 attack percentage in the first set, before rebounding to out-hit UIW (2-7, 1-1 Southland) in a tight second set, .171 to .133.
Chloee Holden and
Elyssa Purcell, both natives of Alvin, Texas, led with four kills each.
Southeastern's lone victory came in the third set, where the Lady Lions posted a .323 attack percentage. Sophomore middle blocker
Jodi Edo (Baton Rouge, La.) added four kills and
Savannah Alcazar (League City, Tex.) added five kills.
Southeastern nearly overcame a 14-8 deficit in the final set, but the momentum quickly shifted due to seven attack errors.
NOTES
- Alcazar (14) and Edo (10) established career highs in kills. For Alcazar, it was the second match in a row she turned in a career-best performance.
- Holden reached double-digit digs (10) for the first time in her career on the way to the first double-double performance of her career (10 kills).
- The Lady Lions put up a .145 attack percentage, their fourth-highest mark of the season.
- With the loss, Southeastern drops to 0-2 in the conference and UIW moves to 1-1.

Southeastern returns to the road for three straight, traveling to Abilene Christian (Sept. 28), Sam Houston State (Sept. 30) and UL Lafayette (Oct. 3), before returning home to host Houston Baptist (Oct. 5).
