Lady Lions Host Southern Miss in Home Opener

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana hosts Southern Miss at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the University Center for its 2017 volleyball home opener.
 
The Lady Lions (1-8) picked up their first win of the season this past weekend, defeating tournament host Alabama State, 3-2, Friday. Southern Miss (8-4) broke a two match skid with a win over Nicholls, 3-0, Saturday.
 
Admission is free and fans should enter the arena upstairs at Gate 3. Volleyball posters and magnet schedules will be available in the Fan Zone, and students can earn points toward their LionUp Loyalty account by checking in on the app while in attendance.

NOTES
  • Junior libero Lexie Torres (San Antonio, Texas) ranks sixth in the Southland Conference with 3.89 digs per set.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Chloee Holden (Alvin, Texas), one of seven Lady Lions averaging at least one kill per set, leads the team with 1.79 kills.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Savannah Alcazar (League City, Texas) has compiled the best set of all-around numbers on the squad, ranking second in kills (1.73 per set), third in digs (1.73 per set) and third in blocks (0.40 per set).
  • Southeastern last played the Golden Eagles during the 2015 season. Southern Miss won the match, 3-1, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
  • Southern Miss leads the all-time series 32-22 and is currently riding a nine-match winning streak against the Lady Lions.
 
OPPONENT
Southern Miss was picked to finish fourth in the Conference USA preseason poll … junior setter Sarah Bell and sophomore outside hitter Catherine Repsher were both named to the preseason All-Conference squad … Repsher (2.84 kills per set) is one of five players averaging more than a pair of kills per set … Bell ranks third nationally with 503 total assists … as a team, Southern Miss is third nationally in team kills (628) and team assists (594) … the Golden Eagles are 3-0 against Southland Conference schools this season, taking a pair of three-set decisions from Nicholls and knocking off McNeese in four sets … losses this season are to Miami, South Alabama, Tulane and Oklahoma.
 
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to the road for one final regular season tournament, traveling to Starkville, Mississippi for the Maroon Classic.
 
The Lady Lions play twice Friday, against North Texas at 10 a.m. and versus Jackson State at 5 p.m. Southeastern wraps up its participation in the Maroon Classic against host Mississippi State at 11 a.m. Saturday.
