MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Southeastern Louisiana dropped a pair of matches, 12-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-12, to Jacksonville and, 25-13,25-23,25-19, to Western Carolina on the final day of action Saturday at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational in Lockhart Gymnasium.
The Lady Lions (1-8) took the first set of the day from Jacksonville (4-4) in convincing fashion, 25-12, before dropping three straight and the match.
Sam Gomez, a freshman from Mandeville, Louisiana, led Southeastern with 11 kills and a .529 attack percentage. Both are career bests for Gomez, who reached double-digit kills for the first time in her young career.
Haley Baker, a junior setter from Elkton, Maryland, turned in a double-double performance with 18 assists and 10 digs.
Michelle Mirarchi, a freshman setter from Plano, Texas, handed out an additional 13 assists.
Lexie Torres, a junior libero from San Antonio, Texas, picked up a team-leading 15 digs.
Gomez again led the Lady Lions in kills against Western Carolina (2-7), posting seven. Baker dished out 16 assists and Torres picked up 11 digs.
NOTES
- Southeastern posted a .500 attack percentage in the opening set against Jacksonville, its best offensive performance of the season in any single set.
- Baker's double-double against Jacksonville was her first of the season.
- With nine kills apiece from Alli Capps and Tempestt Vaughn, the Lady Lions top three attacker against Jacksonville were all freshmen.

Southeastern hosts Southern Miss at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the University Center. The match is the Lady Lions' home opener. Admission is free and fans should enter the arena upstairs at Gate 3.
