NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Second-place Stephen F. Austin moved within one-half game of first in the Southland Conference volleyball standings Tuesday, sweeping past Southeastern Louisiana, 25-17, 25-13, 25-9, at Shelton Gym.
Southeastern (2-20, 0-8 Southland) ran into a Ladyjack buzzsaw as the SFA (19-5, 7-1 Southland) offense turned in a .435 attack percentage, the most efficient offensive attack the Lady Lions have faced this season.
Freshman hitter
Alli Capps (Carthage, Texas) led the Southeastern attack with 10 kills and a .588 attack percentage, giving her double-digit kills in back-to-back matches.
Michelle Mirarchi, a freshman setter from Plano, Texas, handed out a team-high 12 assists. Junior setter
Haley Baker (Elkton, Maryland) added an additional 11 assist for the Lady Lions.
Another freshman, defensive specialist
Alexis Pratt (Houston, Texas), led Southeastern with a career-high nine digs.
NOTES
- Capps' .588 attack percentage is the best by a Lady Lion this season with double-digit attempts.
- With three more service aces, sophomore Elyssa Purcell (Alvin, Texas) now has 17 aces in her last 12 sets.
UP NEXT
Southeastern returns to its home court, opening a four-match homestand Thursday at 7 p.m. against Central Arkansas (17-3, 6-2 Southland). The homestand will close out the home portion of the Lady Lions' 2017 schedule.
Thursday, Southeastern will celebrate Smoot Fever Night. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirt similar to the traditional match day garb of Southeastern head coach
Jim Smoot. Prizes will be awarded for the best shirt.
Saturday, the Lady Lions host Northwestern State at 1 p.m. in the University Center. The conference contest is earmarked as the annual Dig Pink match, dedicated to breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink.
