Houston Baptist Rallies to Nip Lady Lions

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Payton Colson gave the Lady Lions an early lead but Houston Baptist rallied with two goals in the second half for a 2-1 Southland Conference win in Strawberry Stadium Friday night.

"We showed a lot of heart tonight," Southeastern interim head coach Matt Muia said. "Our defense was very solid in the first half and we dominated a lot of the play. We just had a couple of errors in the second half and it led to us giving up two goals we didn't need to give up."

Colson scored her second goal of the season off an assist by senior Amber Lasher. Senior Hope Sabadash made seven saves for Southeastern (4-7-1, 1-3-0).

Sophomore Sabriah Spencer recorded her fourth goal of the season and senior Allison Abendschein her third for Houston Baptist (4-6-1, 2-1-1). Abendschein and sophomore Autumn Wildung each had their second assist. Junior Katie Turner grabbed four saves.

Colson gave Southeastern a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, sliding in a deflection off a pass from Lasher.

Houston Baptist nearly tied it in the 29th minute when senior Alessia Dal Monte's shot from the right wing hit the crossbar. Sophomore Christina Cutura defended away a shot by Wildung in the 41st minute. Sabadash came out of the box to make a sliding tackle against Spencer in the 55th minute.

The Huskies got the equalizer in the 56th minute when Wildung sent a pass to Abendschein down the right side. Abendschein crossed it over to Spencer who knocked it into the left side of the net.

Abendschein again broke down the right side from midfield and angled a shot past Sabadash into the left side of the net, giving Houston Baptist a 2-1 lead in the 60th minute.
