HAMMOND, La. – On a day Southeastern Louisiana senior
Hope Sabadash set the school career record for saves, it was only appropriate the Lady Lions emerged victorious in a defensive struggle.
Junior
Maddie Kresevic converted a penalty kick in the third minute of overtime to give Southeastern a 1-0 Southland Conference victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Sunday at Strawberry Stadium.
"We challenged the team today to find a way to win and get back on track for this year," said Southeastern interim head coach
Matt Muia, whose squad broke a three-match losing streak.
"They made a mistake and we found a way to win. "It was a true team effort today, especially on the back line. We had multiple people playing multiple positions and some players playing in a position for the first time. So it was a true team effort today and we're really proud of the girls."
Sabadash made nine saves, giving her 359 for her career and breaking the previous mark of 351 set by Allison Holladay from 1997-99.
"It's an honor to be here and to be able to play as many games as I have been and to be able to come up for my team," Sabadash said. "I wasn't really focused on records. It was, let's get out with a win so we can keep rolling into next week. I always give credit to my defense. I wouldn't be here if they weren't there."
Muia said the record crowns an already outstanding career for Sabadash.
"I think it's a good record for her and her career," Muia said. "Being an All-American and all-region player and what she brings to the program, she deserves to have a few school records."
