BEAUMONT, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana freshman
Linda Karlsson scored her first career goal with just over two minutes remaining as the Lady Lions rallied to tie Lamar 1-1 in Southland Conference play Friday night at the Lamar Soccer Complex.
Karlsson curled in a right-foot shot off the far post for the equalizer in the 88
th minute as Southeastern (5-7-2, 2-3-1) picked up a point in the race for the Southland Conference Tournament.
"Getting the point off the tie was really big for us tonight and it keeps us alive in the hunt for the conference tournament," Southeastern interim head coach
Matt Muia said. "It was a really back and forth game. Both teams were playing hard and we just happened to get one late and tie it back up."
Senior
Hope Sabadash made eight saves for Southeastern. Freshman
Ylva Svendsen took seven shots, three on goal, while sophomore
Sofia Olsson placed three of her five shots on the net. The Lady Lions held a 25-20 advantage on shots and a 13-9 margin on shots on goal.
Junior Tori Alaniz put Lamar (1-11-2, 0-4-2) ahead early in the match off an assist from sophomore Jordan Mulnix. Mulnix also led the Cardinals with seven shots, three on goal, while junior Marie Lund had four shots, two on the net. Junior Lauren Lovejoy recorded 11 saves.
Both teams had chances in the final two minutes of regulation as Sabadash saved a shot by freshman Macie McFarland before Svendsen sent a shot high.
Sabadash made saves against junior Alaniz and Mulnix in the opening four minutes of the first overtime, then stopped another attempt by Mulnix in the 96
th minute.
Southeastern quickly went on the attack in the second overtime as senior
Casey Peacock had a shot denied by Lovejoy in the opening minute. Lovejoy followed with another save against Svendsen two minutes later.
Junior M.J. Eckart missed high after taking a corner from junior Samantha Moreno in the 105
th minute. Peacock and Svendsen missed wide left before Svendsen sent a shot high in the final minute. Lovejoy then saved a shot by Svendsen in the closing seconds.
Lamar took a 1-0 lead in the 12
th minute as Mulnix raced down the left side before feeding Alaniz in front to for her first goal of the season.
Southeastern had the first opportunity to get on the board in the seventh minute as Olsson sent a header wide before having another stopped by Lovejoy.
Lamar went back on the attack shortly after Alaniz's goal with Sabadash making a save against sophomore Juliana Ocampo. Southeastern took possession with Olsson missing wide in the 15
th minute. Lovejoy then denied an attempt by junior
Lauren Babcock in the 17
th minute. Peacock missed wide right in the 18
th minute.
Karlsson sent a shot wide left less than three minutes later. Senior
Amber Lasher then headed a shot to the right of the net in the 25
th minute.
Lund missed wide left in the 26
th minute. Mulnix and Lund sent shots wide left over the next five minutes before Sabadash saved an attempt by Lund in the 36
th minute. Junior Laura Para missed wide left in the 41
st minute. Eckart had a header off a corner by Moreno blocked in the 43
rd minute.

Alanix opened the second half by having a shot blocked before Mulnix missed wide right in the 52
nd minute. After Southeastern took possession, Peacock sent a header wide left in the 55
th minute. Lovejoy saved a shot by sophomore
Payton Colson less than two minutes later.
Lamar quickly countered with Mulnix having her shot saved by Sabadash before having her rebound attempt blocked in the 59
th minute. Lovejoy and Sabadash traded saves against Olsson and Lund, respectively, over the next five minutes.
Southeastern put the pressure on in the 69
th minute as Babcock had a corner blocked. Svendsen got the rebound but had her shot saved by Lovejoy. Svendsen had another header blocked a minute later before Lovejoy stopped an attempt by freshman
Caitlin LaMarche in the 75
th minute.
Colson had an attempt sail high in the 82
nd minute. Lovejoy saved a shot by Lasher in the 84
th minute. The Cardinal defense then stopped a shot by Olsson in the 87
th minute.
Southeastern returns home to host Sam Houston next Friday at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium. The match will be Southeastern's Pink Game with the Lady Lions showcasing their support for breast cancer awareness. Fans and students are encouraged to wear pink, and at the same time work together to build breast cancer awareness within the local and surrounding areas.
