HAMMOND, La. – Freshmen
Chloee Holden and
Elyssa Purcell led the way for Southeastern Louisiana in Southland Conference action Saturday, but it was not enough to overcome Houston Baptist in five sets at the University Center.
Southeastern (2-12, 1-1 Southland) played its second five-setter in as many matches, having topped Lamar Thursday evening. The Huskies (10-7, 2-0 Southland) picked up their second straight win, having topped New Orleans in three sets Thursday.
The Lady Lions took a 2-1 lead into the fourth set, but HBU pulled away down the stretch.
Purcell, a redshirt freshman from Alvin, Texas, turned in her fourth triple-double of the season (10 kills, 25 assists, 17 digs), keeping her among the national leaders. The assist and dig totals are both career bests. Holden, also a freshman from Alvin, established a new career high with 16 kills, while swinging at a .273 attack percentage.
Madi Odom, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, added 10 kills to the Lady Lion offensive attack, while
Haley Baker, a sophomore from Elkton, Maryland, handed out 19 assists. Odom also tied a career high, leading all players with 25 digs for a double-double performance.
Libero
Monica Ramon, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, picked up 22 digs and handed out a career-high seven assists.
Macey Stock, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, also turned in a career high, contributing 19 digs for Southeastern.
With five total blocks, one solo,
Rachael Bunn is now fifth all-time on both Southeastern's career block assist (246) and total blocks (282) lists.
The Huskies' Blair Gillard led all players with 17 kills and nine total blocks, while Bailey Banks also turned in double-figure kills (14) and contributed 12 digs for a double-double. Kayla Armer dished out 42 assists and picked up 14 digs for a double-double.
Hailey Erickson (23) led five HBU players with double-digit dig totals, including Melissa Fuchs (18) and Rachel Angeles (16).
Southeastern returns to action Oct. 1 in a Southland matchup at Abilene Christian (2-15, 1-1 Southland). The Lady Lions' next home match is Oct. 8 at the University Center against in-state rival New Orleans.
