MOBILE, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday at the Jaguar Invitational, falling to South Alabama and Florida A&M.
Southeastern (1-4) dropped its first match, 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 23-25, 15-12, to host South Alabama (3-1). Turning around to play the next match on the docket, the Lady Lions fell, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-15, to Florida A&M (2-3).
The Lady Lions face Florida International, Saturday at 10:30 a.m., in their final match of the tournament. Live stats for the match will be available at www.LionSports.net.
MATCH ONE: South Alabama 3, Southeastern 2
Redshirt freshman
Elyssa Purcell helped lead a valiant comeback effort by the Lady Lions, but Southeastern fell short in the fifth and deciding set.
Purcell, a native of Alvin, Texas, turned in a triple-double performance to pace Southeastern with 12 kills and 16 digs, also handing out 15 assists. Fellow freshmen
Savannah Alcazar (League City, Texas) and Chloe Holden (Alvin) each contributed nine kills. Sophomore setter
Haley Baker (Elkton, Maryland) dished out a team-high 17 assists.

Monica Ramon (San Antonio, Texas) chipped in 15 digs, while
Macey Stock, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, added 11 and
Madi Odom, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, contributed 10 digs.
Southeastern struggled offensively through the first two sets, recording as many kills as errors, but righted the ship down the stretch. The Lady Lions won the both the third and fourth sets before pushing South Alabama to the brink in the final set.
Iva Durdanovic recorded a double-double for South Alabama, posting 11 kills and 14 digs. Kellyn Reeves (15 assists) and Ashlyn Roberts (14 assists) split setting duties for the Jaguars.
Abby Baker led all players with 18 digs and Arissa Chappell added 12 for South Alabama. The Jaguars tallied 14 team blocks, with three players recording five total blocks each.

MATCH TWO: Florida A&M 3, Southeastern 1
The Lady Lions rolled into the next match by taking the first set from Florida A&M, but the Rattlers took the next three sets for the win.
Holden picked up 11 kills to lead Southeastern offensively. Purcell handed out 23 assists and Baker distributed another 13 for the Lady Lions. Odom and Stock picked up a team-high nine digs in the match.
Nicole Abreu turned in a double-double, leading all players with 19 kills, and chipping in 14 digs, while Dei'Ja Martin added an additional 15 kills for Florida A&M. Valeria Lopez dished out 34 assists in just three sets.
Valentina Carrasco picked up a match-high 15 digs, while Radka Dimitrova (12) and Starmichael Tucker (11) each contributed double-digit digs for the Rattlers.
