Lady Lion Volleyball Opens Extended Road Swing at Troy

TROY, Ala. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball squad opens a 10-match road trip with a non-conference contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Troy at Trojan Arena.

Coming off a split in Saturday's season-opening doubleheader that earned head coach Jim Smoot his 400th career victory, Southeastern (1-1) will spend the rest of its pre-conference slate on the road.

A video stream of the match, provided by Troy (1-2), is linked on the volleyball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Five Lady Lions are averaging at least a pair of kills per set, including Elyssa Purcell (2.57 k.set), a redshirt freshman from Alvin, Texas, Parrie Hartley (2.25 k/set), Rachael Bunn (2.14 k.set), Savannah Alcazar (2.13 k/set) and Madi Odom (2.00 k/set). Haley Baker (7.63 assists per set), a sophomore from Elkton, Maryland, handles the bulk of the setting duties, while splitting time with Purcell (3.57 a/set).

Odom, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, leads the Southland Conference in service aces (0.75 per set), while a trio of freshmen, Jodi Edo (0.75 blocks per set), Purcell (0.43 b/set) and Alcazar (0.38 b/set), are Southeastern's top blocking threats.

Libero Monica Ramon, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, leads the conference with 5.25 digs per set. Joining her in anchoring the back row are Odom (4.63 d/set) and Macey Stock (3.00 d/set), a sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As a team, Southeastern ranks 10th in the nation with 19.75 digs per set.

After the season's opening weekend, the Lady Lions lead the Southland in aces (1.75 per set), digs, opponent attack percentage (.111) and team attacks per set (40.00).

After winning its season opener, Troy dropped its final two matches at East Tennessee State this past weekend in the DoubleTree Hotel Buccaneer Challenge.

Symone Shaw (2.70 k/set) and Sara Landis (2.45 k/set) are the Trojans' top offensive threats, while Reina Terry (5.62 a/set) and Kiara Barrett (3.27 a/set) share setting duties.

Troy is averaging two-plus blocks per set behind the trio of Leah Causey (1.00 b/set), Sara Landis (0.91 b/set) and Logan Page (0.82 b/set). Avalon Nero (4.00 digs per set) and Alisha Hinrichs (2.73 d/set) are the Trojan's top defenders along the back row.

Southeastern returns to action Friday at 1 p.m. against host South Alabama in the Jaguar Invitational. The Lady Lions will not return to the University Center until Sept. 22 when they open Southland Conference play against Lamar.
