Lions Continue Road Swing at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. – Looking to extend its eight-game winning streak, Southeastern Louisiana travels to Jackson State for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest Tuesday.

There will be no local radio coverage, but fans can keep up with the contest through live statistics or by following SLUathletics on Twitter. A link for live stats is available on both the home and baseball schedule pages at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern (14-6) rallied for six runs in the ninth inning this past Sunday to defeat Abilene Christian, 9-7, in Southland Conference play at Crutcher Scott Field in Abilene, Texas.

Jameson Fisher (.464), Webb Bobo (.378), Brennan Breaud (.323) and Julian Service (.316) lead the Lions at the plate. The team's triple crown leader, Fisher ranks seventh nationally in batting average and has already smashed seven home runs and driven in 25 runs. Southeastern is hitting .289 as a team with 32 doubles, eight triples, 18 home runs and 33 stolen bases.

The Lion pitching staff ranks No. 3 nationally with a 2.15 ERA, fanning 192 batters in 180.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting a conference-low .208 off Southeastern pitchers.

Jackson State (9-9) is led by regulars Carlos Diaz (.327), Cornelius Copeland (.321) and Calvin Newsome (.310). Jesus Santana has swatted a team-high six home runs and driven in 19 runs. The Tigers are hitting .272 as a team with 26 doubles, five triples, 18 home runs and 31 stolen bases.

The Jackson State pitching staff has compiled a 6.25 ERA, fanning 141 batters in 148 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .288 off Tiger pitchers.

Southeastern swept the season series last year, 19-10 in Jackson and 11-4 in Hammond, Louisiana.

The Lions return to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field for a three-game Southland Conference series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Thursday through Saturday.

General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children (ages 3-12) for all Lion home games. Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.

Ticket office hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Fridays. The box office at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field opens one hour prior to the scheduled first pitch.
