Lions Find Power Stroke in 10-2 Win at Abilene Christian

Bobo, Breaud, Crites all homer

ABILENE, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana slammed three home runs Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field in a 10-2 Southland Conference win over Abilene Christian.

With their second straight victory over ACU (9-9, 2-3 Southland), the Lions (13-6, 5-0 Southland) maintained a hold on first place in the conference standings and extended their winning streak to seven.

Saturday's game began in much the same way the series opener wrapped up Friday, with both teams searching for runs. Neither team scored in the final five innings of Southeastern's 4-3 series opening win Friday night and both starting pitchers were locked into a 1-1 duel Saturday as the game rolled into the sixth inning.

The Lions scored a run off ACU starting pitcher Garrett deMeyere (2-2) in the fourth, to tie the game, and then exploded for four in the sixth to hand a lead over to Mac Sceroler (2-2).

Jacob Seward, a junior from New Orleans, Louisiana, drew a one-out walk from deMeyere to start the sixth-inning rally. After Seward stole second base, his second of the game, shortstop Brennan Breaud beat out a chopper to short for an infield single.

Breaud moved up to second without a throw, putting a pair in scoring position for Jameson Fisher. The Lion first baseman smashed a deep fly ball to center field, allowing both runners to tag up and advance. Seward scored to give Southeastern a 2-1 lead.

Daniel Midyett, a senior from Shreveport, Louisiana, ripped an RBI single up the middle to plate Breaud. It was the third hit of the game for Midyett, who had driven in Seward with the tying run back in the fourth.

Webb Bobo, a junior from Prattville, Alabama, followed by smashing his third home run in the last four games to give the Lions a 5-1 lead and chase deMeyere from the game.

In the seventh, Southeastern reached reliever Drew Hanson for three more runs.

Carson Crites, a junior second baseman from Amarillo, Texas, smacked a leadoff home run to right field.

Catcher Chris Eades, a senior from Slidell, Louisiana, followed with a single to left-center field and scored on Breaud's two-out home run to right. It was the first career homer for the freshman from Norco, Louisiana.

The Lions tacked on two more runs in the eighth off reliever David Ruot.

Bobo drew a walk to open up the inning. Pinch runner Ryan Byers, a junior from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, advanced to third on a single to right by senior right fielder Julian Service. After a balk plated Byers and advanced Service to second, Eades drove a one-out double down the left-field line to plate Southeastern's final run of the game.

ACU scored the game's final run on a two-out, eighth-inning single off Lion reliever Payton Robinson.

Eight of Southeastern's nine starters hit safely, while Midyett (3-for-4), Breaud (2-for-4), Eades (2-for-4) and Service (2-for-4) all turned in multi-hit performances. Bobo, Breaud and Midyett each drove in a pair.

Sceroler earned the win, allowing one unearned run on six hits in six innings of work. The sophomore right-hander from Denham Springs, Louisiana, struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Robinson allowed one run on four hits, working a pair of innings and fanning two. Freshman right-hander Carlo Graffeo fanned a pair while working a scoreless ninth.

Senior southpaw Domenick Carlini (2-0, 1.82) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale against Wildcat senior left-hander Aaron Mason (3-1, 2.14).
