Lions Host No. 27-Ranked Tulane for Fireworks Night

Southeastern pitching staff leads nation in K per 9

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana wraps up its season-opening, 8-game homestand Wednesday, hosting No. 27-ranked Tulane for Fireworks Night at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

The Lions (4-3) face the Green Wave (4-3) for the first of two times this season. Southeastern will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 5 for the rematch.

In-game and postgame fireworks will be presented Wednesday by Southeastern Athletic Marketing and Promotions. Students and campus organizations can also earn points toward their new Lion Up Loyalty account at any home game just by checking-in on the mobile app while in attendance.

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and through TuneIn Radio app. Fans can keep up with the contest through live statistics or by following SLUathletics on Twitter. Streaming video is available on LionVision, Southeastern's subscription-based video stream. Southeastern is coming off a 7-2 win over Troy this past Sunday.

Leading the way offensively for the Lions are Jameson Fisher (.481), Jacob Seward (.391), Brennan Breaud (.357), Taylor Schwaner (.350) and Julian Service (.333). Southeastern is hitting .297 as a team with 12 doubles, three home runs and six stolen bases.

The Lion pitching staff, which leads the nation with an average of 12.7 strikeouts per nine innings, has compiled a 1.83 ERA (13th nationally), fanning 90 batters through 64 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .190 off Southeastern pitching.

Right-hander Pat Cashman (1-0, 9.00), a senior from Plainfield, Illinois, draws the starting nod for the Lions on the mound. He will be opposed by freshman left-hander Ross Massey (1-0, 1.50) for the Green Wave.

The Green Wave pitching staff has compiled a 5.14 ERA, fanning 74 batters through 63 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .265 off Tulane pitching.

Stephen Alemais (.433), Jake Willsey (.409), Grant Witherspoon (.375) and Jeremy Montalbano (.357) are the Green Wave's top hitters. Willsey's four home runs rank ninth in the nation. Tulane ranks 18th nationally with nine home runs as a team, hitting .283 for the season with 10 doubles and seven stolen bases.

Tulane has dropped back-to-back games, falling to host San Diego, 7-6, and Nebraska, 11-5, after defeating Arizona, 11-10, in the opening game of the Tony Gwynn Classic out in San Diego, California.

The Lions have won five of the last seven games in the series played in Hammond.

Southeastern embarks on its first road trip of the season this coming weekend, participating in East Carolina's Keith LeClair Classic in Greenville, North Carolina. The Lions will face the host Pirates, ranked No. 16 by D1Baseball.com, Maryland and Tennessee.
