ABILENE, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana took Southland Conference leader Abilene Christian to the wire but the Wildcats held on for a 72-70 win in Moody Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
   Southeastern (4-21, 3-11) rallied from a six-point deficit with 1:48 remaining to get to within 70-68 on a
KaeLynn Boyd 3-pointer with 26 seconds left. Alexis Mason hit two free throws to give Abilene Christian (22-3, 13-1) a 72-68 lead with seven seconds left. Boyd was fouled with 3 seconds left and made the first free throw before intentionally missing the second. The rebound went off a Wildcat player, giving the Lady Lions the ball with just over a second left.

    Boyd was again fouled before Southeastern could inbound the ball, then again intentionally missed the second free throw after making the first to make it 72-70.
Taylin Underwood raced in to rebound the ball on the left side but her put back attempt went long as the buzzer sounded.

Dani Fielder led Southeastern with career highs of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Nanna Pool recorded her third straight double-double and 11
th of the season with 14 points and 13 boards before fouling out with 2:21 left. Boyd finished with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Underwood had 10 points. Southeastern shot 34.7 percent and had a season-high 50 rebounds.

    Abilene Christian completed the season sweep of Southeastern as four players scored in double figures. Sydney Shelstead (24 points, 10 rebounds) and Suzzy Dimba (16 points, 11 boards) each had a double-double while Alexis Mason added 17 points and Whitney West Swinford 11. The Wildcats, who took a game lead on Central Arkansas, shot 30.2 percent but were 84.8 percent (28-of-33) from the free throw line.

    There were six lead changes and five ties in the game. Abilene Christian went ahead for good at 55-53 on a 3 by Mason with 8:29 remaining. Dimba added another 3 as the Wildcats went up 59-53 with 5:07 left. Fielder hit a pair of jumpers to make it 59-57 at the 4:22 mark but Mason pushed the lead back to 67-61 with two free throws with 1:48 left.

    Boyd hit two free throws to cut the deficit to 68-65 with 1:08 left. But the Wildcats, who made just one of their final nine shots, got two Shelstead free throws to take a 70-65 lead with 44 seconds remaining.

    Southeastern took a 27-25 lead into the half and led 31-27 following a
Kyle Felton layup with 8:29 left in the third quarter. Abilene Christian responded with an 11-2 run to go up 38-33 on a three-point play by Shelstead at the 6:12 mark. A Fielder jumper made it 46-45 with 2:46 left but Shelstead went in for a layup for a 51-45 lead with 49 seconds remaining. It was 52-48 going into the fourth quarter.

    Underwood hit a 3 and Felton followed with a jumper to give Southeastern a 53-52 advantage with 8:29 left in the game.

    Abilene Christian jumped out to a 10-4 lead on a West Swinford layup with 6:02 left in the first. Southeastern rallied to tie the game at 13 on a
Peaches Anderson 3 with 18 seconds left.

    A pair of West Swinford free throws regained the lead for the Wildcats at 17-13 with 8:31 remaining. Southeastern went on a 7-2 run to take its first lead at 20-19 on a Pool layup with 4:39 left. Two lead changes and a tie later, Pool and Boyd went in for layups to give the Lady Lions a 27-23 lead with six seconds remaining.

    Southeastern returns home to host Northwestern State at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
