HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana cut a 19-point fourth-quarter deficit to six but could not get any closer as New Orleans held on for a 62-51 Southland Conference win in the University Center Thursday night.
Southeastern (4-20, 3-10) was looking for its first winning streak of the season but could not overcome shooting 29.9 percent (20-of-67) from the field. The Lady Lions also shot 11.1 percent on 3-pointers (3-of-27) and 53.3 percent from the line (8-of-15).

th double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Taylin Underwood added 14 points while freshman forward
Kyle Felton added eight points and nine rebounds.
Southeastern held New Orleans (7-15, 4-9) to 31.7 percent (19-of-60) from the field, including 0-for-12 on 3s. The Privateers, who broke a four-game losing streak, were led by Randi Brown with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Halie Matthews tossed in 11 points while Shania Woods had nine.
New Orleans took a 44-25 lead into the final quarter and were still up 47-29 following a Matthews jumper with 7:36 remaining. But Underwood started a 10-0 run for the Lady Lions with a jumper at the 7:18 mark. Pool and Felton both hit jumpers and Underwood scored off a steal to make it 47-39 with 6:03 left.
New Orleans went back up 51-42 on a free throw by Danielle Davis with 2:30 left.
KaeLynn Boyd countered with a 3 at the 2:20 mark to pull Southeastern to within six. But Brown answered with a three-point play at the other end and the Privateers hit eight of 12 free throws in the final 1:42.
There were six lead changes in the first quarter after both teams struggled offensively in the opening minutes. Matthews scored the game's first field goal with a layup at the 6:45 mark. Southeastern took its third and final lead at 7-6 on a jumper by Pool with 4:26 left. Raven Coleman answered with a layup at the 3:53 mark as New Orleans scored the final 10 points of the quarter. A Coleman jumper made it 16-7 at the end of the period.
Coleman hit another jumper to give the Privateers a 20-7 lead with 8:20 left in the half.
Bre Warren broke a 6:53 scoreless spell for Southeastern with a jumper at the 7:33 mark. Pool followed with a layup to make it 20-11 with 6:39 remaining. But that was the last time the deficit was in single digits until the fourth quarter as New Orleans built a 30-14 lead on a Woods jumper with 52 seconds left. It was 30-16 at the half.
A Matthews free throw made it 37-20 with 4:53 left in the third. Underwood cut it to 37-25 on a 3 with 1:59 remaining. But a pair of Brown free throws with 53 seconds remaining gave New Orleans a 44-25 lead heading into the fourth.
Southeastern travels to Abilene Christian for a 3:30 p.m. tipoff on Sunday. The Lady Lions and Privateers will meet again in New Orleans on March 3.
