Lady Lions Fall to No. 21 Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. – Seven Lady Buffaloes scored in double figures to lead No. 21 Colorado to a 112-54 victory over Southeastern Louisiana in non-conference women's basketball action Friday afternoon at the Coors Events Center.

Colorado (7-0) remained undefeated, as it out-rebounded the Lady Lions (2-4), 65-30, on the way to its seventh victory of the season. Southeastern fell to 0-4 on the road with Friday's loss.

"Colorado is a perfect example of the style of play we want to play as we continue to grow our program," Southeastern first-year head coach Errol Gauff commented. "They play fast and do a great job spacing the floor. We're not there yet."

Freshman Charliee Dugas led the Lady Lions with 12 points and was joined in double figures by junior Bre Warren, who added 10 points. Junior Taylin Underwood added nine points and hit the 114th three-point field goal of her career, moving her into a tie with former teammate Erica Hernandez for fourth place on the school's career list.

Underwood also led Southeastern with five assists, while freshman Taz Stinson grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman Courtney Dawsey led SLU with two steals, while Stinson blocked a team-high two shots.

Ariana Freeman and Kennedy Leondard shared game-high honors with 19 points apiece for the Buffaloes. Zoe Correal posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Alexis Robinson added 11 points as well. Makenzie Ellis, Haley Smith and Brecca Thomas finished with 10 points apiece for CU.

Smith and Thomas each had a team-high five assists. Ellis and Zoe Beard-Fails each blocked three shots, as Colorado finished with 16 blocked shots as a team. Ellis, Freeman and Thomas each contributed three steals.

Southeastern took a brief lead on a three by Ashailee Brailey to open the game, but Colorado closed the opening period with a 13-3 run to take a 22-12 lead after one quarter.

Colorado dominated the second quarter to extend its halftime lead. The Buffaloes outscored Southeastern, 30-11, in the second period to take a 52-23 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was the game's most competitive, as Southeastern closed the period with a 15-6 run fueled by Underwood and Dugas. But Colorado blew the game open with a 38-10 fourth quarter to secure the final 58-point margin.

Wednesday's game was the start of a two-game trip for the Lady Lions in Colorado. On Friday, SLU will face Colorado State in an 8 p.m. (CST) contest in Fort Collins, Colorado. Friday's game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the TuneIn Radio app. CSU will provide live stats and live video, which will be accessible at www.LionSports.net on the women's basketball schedule page.
