HAMMOND, La. – Southland Conference schools have already pulled off a pair of upsets to start the 2016-17 season as Nicholls won at Boston College and Lamar took a victory at Oregon State.
Southeastern Louisiana head coach
Jay Ladner does not see why his squad cannot do the same on its three-game swing to UTEP, Colorado State and California this week.
"As the program has continued to grow, I think we've gone from establishing the fact that we can win to now it's time to go win some of these type of games," Ladner said. "I was disappointed we didn't beat Tulane (a 93-76 loss on Nov. 14). We were right in that game and I think the players are disappointed, too. The days of Southeastern going to play the higher-level conference schools and being happy with just playing with them is over with. The changing of our thought process – winning teams, successful people, successful programs, think big. It's time for us to beat a UTEP, a Colorado State, a Cal. It could happen. It's already happened so far this season. But you have to have the mindset to go do that."
The quest begins with a 8 p.m. (CDT) tip-off at UTEP in the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas on Wednesday. The game between the Lions (3-1) and Miners (2-2) will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the TuneIn Radio app.
Live video (utepathletics.com - subscription required) and live stats, provided by UTEP, will be accessible on the men's basketball schedule page at
