HAMMOND, La. – After dropping an exciting, back-and-forth first set, Central Arkansas rallied to defeat Southeastern Louisiana in four, 27-29, 25-19, 25-14, 25-22, in Southland Conference volleyball action Tuesday at the University Center.
Southeastern (6-20, 5-8 Southland) survived an 8-point run by the Sugar Bears (12-13, 6-7 Southland) to win the first set, but could not weather UCA's blocking to take the match.
The Sugar Bears recorded 10 team blocks overall with nine coming after the first set.
Parrie Hartley, a senior from Columbus, Texas, led all players with 19 kills, falling one shy of tying her career high.
Chloee Holden, a freshman from Alvin, Texas, added 12 kills for the Lady Lions.
Elyssa Purcell, a freshman who also hails from Alvin, recorded a double-double, handing out 22 assists and posting 14 digs.
Haley Baker, a sophomore from Elkton, Maryland, dished out an additional 16 assists for Southeastern.
Monica Ramon, a sophomore libero from San Antonio, Texas, tallied a match-high 23 digs for the Lady Lions while
Macey Stock, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, added 14 digs.
Haley Tippett (17) and Samantha Anderson (12) reached double figures in kills for the Sugar Bears while Elizabeth Armstrong handed out a match-high 45 assists.
Savanah Allen had a hand in seven of UCA's 10 blocks.
Tippett (15 digs) recorded a double-double performance, joining Rayna Jefferis (15), Amanda Dimon (14) and Rachel Sharp (10) with double-digit dig totals.
With the Southland volleyball tournament two weeks away, Southeastern finds itself one-half game behind McNeese (9-18, 5-7 Southland) for the final spot. The Lady Lions swept the season series from the Cowgirls this season.
Southeastern finishes out the week with a pair of road matches. Next up is a 6:30 p.m. contest Thursday at Sam Houston State (13-12, 7-5 Southland)

Jordyn Vaughn (3.27 kills per set), Brooke White (3.26 k/s) and Michelle Griffith (9.53 assists per set) lead the Bearkat offensive attack.
Taylor Cunningham (0.83 blocks per set) and Sarah Sherman (0.72 b/s) are Sam Houston's top blocking threats.
Claire Kilpatrick (3.00) and Breanna Homer (2.79) are among six players averaging at least a pair of digs per set for the Bearkats.
Southeastern wraps up the week Saturday at Stephen F. Austin (16-9, 9-3 Southland).
