LAFAYETTE, La. – UL Lafayette swept past Southeastern Louisiana in straight sets, 25-19, 25-18, 25-14, Wednesday in non-conference play at Earl K. Long Gym.
The Ragin' Cajuns' (6-13) offense outslugged Southeastern (2-14, 1-2 Southland), .409 to .348, in the first set. Stacey Reilly recorded six kills to pace UL Lafayette to the early lead.
Down, 5-0, in the second set, the Lady Lions rallied to take a 9-8 lead on a block by
Rachael Bunn and
Landry Bullock. After UL Lafayette went back up by three, Southeastern rallied once again to tie it up, 17-17, on a Bunn kill. Following a timeout, the Ragin' Cajuns pulled away to close out the set.
After the Lady Lions scored the first point of the final set, UL Lafayette went on a 13-3 run to put away the match.
Chloee Holden, a freshman from Alvin, Texas, led Southeastern with nine kills and
Madi Odom, a senior from Kingwood, Texas, added eight.
Haley Baker, a sophomore from Elkton, Maryland, handed out a team-high 15 assists.
Monica Ramon, a sophomore libero from San Antonio, Texas, picked up a match-high nine digs.
Nia Antoine led all players with 10 kills, while Reilly recorded nine in the match for the Ragin' Cajuns. Jessica Batczyszyn dished out a match-high 26 assists.
Reilly, McKenzie John and Sydney Davis each contributed six digs, while Chanelle Gardner had a hand in five of UL Lafayette's seven team blocks.
Southeastern returns to Southland Conference play Saturday at the University Center in a 12 p.m. matchup with New Orleans (3-14, 0-4 Southland).
