CONWAY, Ark. – Southeastern Louisiana took a first-half lead but Central Arkansas rallied for a 3-2 Southland Conference victory Friday evening.
Senior
Casey Peacock scored her fourth goal of the season and sophomore
Vanessa Arzaluz her second as the Lady Lions (6-9-2, 3-5-1) took a 2-1 lead in the first half. Senior
Hope Sabadash made seven saves.
Sophomore Camille Bassett scored her league-leading 13
th goal of the season in the 46
th minute to give conference front-runner Central Arkansas (13-3-1, 8-0-1) the victory. Junior Dayna Mounie scored her sixth goal of the year and added an assist on senior's Chele Naudin's second in the first half. Sophomore Ashley Smith assisted on Mounie's goal. Junior Anna Hughes made three saves while sophomore Lauren Mercuri made one in recording a scoreless second half.
"It was a great match," Southeastern interim head coach
Matt Muia said. "We came out and gave up a goal early, but we rebounded and went ahead 2-1. We were playing with them in the second half and they ended up getting one on us. But it was a great game for our girls and a great showing of heart for our girls and I couldn't be more proud of them after tonight."
With the match tied at 2 at the half, Central Arkansas quickly went ahead to start the second half as Bassett dribbled for 30 yards before beating Sabadash to the lower left corner.
UCA kept up the pressure as Sabadash saved a shot by Bassett before Smith sent a header wide in the 50
th minute.
Southeastern put on a flurry of shots over the next six minutes as junior
Maddie Kresevic missed high and Peacock sent one wide before freshman
Ylva Svendsen had a shot blocked. Svendsen then sent a shot wide in the 56
th minute. Sabadash came back with a save against Bassett before making another one against Naudin in the 65
th minute.
UCA continued to control the ball as Sabadash saved a shot by senior Allie Coleman in the 68
th minute. Freshman Jordan Slim sent a rebound wide after Naudin had a shot blocked in the 73
rd minute. Sabadash collected another save against senior Shelby Wilson in the 79
th minute.
Southeastern threatened in the 85
th minute as freshman
Amber Marinero had her shot saved by Mercuri, then sent another attempt high. A corner kick by junior
Lauren Babcock was cleared out in the 87
th minute.
Central Arkansas jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute when Mounie took a pass from Smith and sent a shot into the left side of the net from 10 yards out.
Wilson missed high on an attempt in the eighth minute. Southeastern then went on the offensive with sophomore
Sofia Olsson sending in a header that was saved by Hughes. Kresevic then sent a shot wide off a corner by Babcock in the 12
th minute. The Bears countered with Sabadash saving an attempt by Mounie.
After Olsson missed wide, Southeastern tied the match in the 15
th minute when Peacock dribbled to the top of the box and angled a shot into the top left corner of the net.
The Lady Lions went ahead in the 22
nd minute as Arzaluz scored on a shot from the top of the box.
Svendsen had a header saved by Hughes, then sent a shot wide in the 32
nd minute. Naudin and Mounie sent shots high in the 36
th minute. Hughes stopped another attempt by Olsson in the 38
th minute.
Central Arkansas tied it at 2 in the 39
th minute when Bassett scored from 3 yards out off a pass from Naudin.
Sabadash saved a shot by Coleman less than a minute later. Wilson then missed high in the 40
th minute.
