Lady Lion Rally Falls Short

Southeastern falls to UIW in five

HAMMOND, La. – Down two sets to none, Southeastern Louisiana rallied to force a deciding fifth set Thursday, but fell short, 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 15-10, to Incarnate Word in Southland Conference play at the University Center.
 
Southeastern (5-17, 4-5 Southland), which had won three of its last four matches, fell behind, 4-1, early in the fifth set and never could overcome the UIW (8-13, 4-5 Southland) advantage.
 
Elyssa Purcell, a redshirt freshman from Alvin, Texas, recorded her sixth triple-double of the season (15 kills, 22 assists and 14 digs) which ties her for second in the nation.
 
Savannah Alcazar, a freshman from League City, Texas, and Chloee Holden, a freshman also from Alvin, each contributed 11 kills for the Lady Lions. For Alcazar, the kill total tied a career high.
 
Haley Baker, a sophomore from Elkton, Maryland, and Monica Ramon, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, both turned in double-doubles. Baker handed out 22 assists along with recording a team-high 15 digs, while Ramon dished out a career-high 10 assists to go with 10 digs for the first double-double of her career.
 
Macey Stock, a sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, contributed 13 digs for the Lady Lions.
 
Autumn Lockley recorded a double-double, with 15 kills and 12 digs, while leading the way for UIW. She also had a hand in seven of the Cardinals' 15 team blocks.
 
Bryaunea Hall added 14 kills and Shaina Garza contributed 10 more for UIW.
 
Sierra Moses dished out a match-high 28 assists, while Madison Williams handed out another 19.
 
Sarea Alexander led all players with nine total blocks, including a pair of solo blocks. UIW libero Claudia Hernandez led all players with 21 digs.
 
Southeastern wraps up Homecoming week with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 12 p.m. Saturday. The Islanders (14-7, 9-0 Southland) defeated New Orleans in four sets Thursday.
 
Admission is free. Fans should enter the arena upstairs at Gate 3. Volleyball posters and magnet schedules will be available in the Fan Zone, and students can earn points toward their LionUp Loyalty account by checking in on the app while in attendance.
 
Four seniors, Landry Bullock, Rachael Bunn, Parrie Hartley and Madi Odom, will be honored before the Homecoming matchup with first place A&M-Corpus Christi.
