Lions Host UIW, Lamar

Monday's contest is Cane's Challenge contest

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team takes to the University Center court Saturday and Monday for a pair of Southland Conference games against Incarnate Word and Lamar.

Fans are encouraged to wear white to Saturday's 4 p.m. game to "White Out the U.C." against UIW (7-7, 2-1 Southland). Monday's 7 p.m. game against Lamar (9-7, 1-3 Southland) is a Cane's Challenge game. More information is available on the promotions page at www.LionSports.net.

Students and campus organizations can also earn points toward their new Lion Up Loyalty account at each game just by checking-in on the mobile app while in attendance.

Last time out an upset bid by the Lions (2-14, 0-3 Southland) fell short at conference-leading Sam Houston State (9-8, 4-0 Southland), 70-63, this past Monday.

Mo Greenwood, a freshman from Sharon, Mississippi, led Southeastern with 16 points. Zay Jackson, a senior from Hammond, Louisiana, scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds before fouling out. Jordan Capps, a junior from Norcross, Georgia, added 14 points to the offensive effort.

Jackson leads Southeastern in scoring this season with an average of 13.1 points per game and is fourth in the Southland Conference with 4.5 assists per game. Joshua Filmore (9.5 ppg), a junior from Orlando, Florida, and Greenwood (7.3 ppg) round out the Lions' top healthy scorers.

This season Southeastern is shooting 43.6 percent (373-of-856) from the floor which ranks fifth in the Southland. The Lions have hit 32.2 percent (101-of-314) from 3-point range, are 216-of-357 (60.5 percent) from the free throw line and have been out-rebounded by opponents, on average, 36.5-to-33.4 per game.

Entering Saturday's doubleheader contest, UIW has won back-to-back games over Northwestern State and the University of New Orleans.

Kyle Hittle (16.3 ppg, 5.9 rebounds per game), Jontrell Walker (14.6 ppg), Derail Green (11.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg) and Shawn Johnson (9.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg) lead UIW's high-powered offensive attack.

This season UIW is shooting 42.5 percent (358-of-842) from the floor, including 36.0 percent (114-of-317) from 3-point range. The Cardinals have hit 217-of-292 (74.3 percent) from the free throw line and have been out-rebounded by opponents, on average, 40.1-to-33.7 per game.

Last season the Lions defeated UIW in a double-overtime slugfest, 108-98, in San Antonio, Texas.

After defeating Nicholls, 79-67, in the its conference opener Lamar has dropped three-consecutive games.

Nick Garth (14.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg), Kevin Booze (9.8 ppg), Lincoln Davis (9.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg) and Dontavious Sears (9.2 ppg, 5.9 rpg) are the Cardinals' top threats.

This season Lamar is shooting 42.0 percent (419-of-998) from the floor, including 32.8 percent (113-of-345) from 3-point range. The Cardinals have hit 307-of-435 (70.6 percent) from the free throw line and have out-rebounded opponents, on average, 43.4-to-37.2 per game.

Southeastern dropped last season's matchup, 57-50, in Beaumont, Texas.
