Story Links

HAMMOND, La. – UL Lafayette came charging back from a two-set deficit Tuesday at the University Center to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 23-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 15-13, in a non-conference contest.

Southeastern (7-9) out-hit the Ragin' Cajuns (4-11) in the first set, .432 to .333, and did not commit an attack error. The momentum carried into the second set as the Lady Lion defense helped shut down UL Lafayette, putting Southeastern up two sets to none.

The Ragin' Cajuns came out strong after intermission, building a 12-6 lead in the third set and hung on to avoid the sweep.

Landry Bullock and Sarah Friedman led the Lady Lions with 16 kills each. Madi Odom added 10 kills and 15 digs while Mikayla Shippy handed out 30 assists and chipped in 11 digs, turning in double-double performances. Haley Baker added 20 assists, splitting setting duties with Shippy. Brooke Balser led all players with 19 digs.

Sara Mossakowski led all players with 20 kills. Nia Antoine (13), Katey Kyle (12) and Chanelle Gardner (12) also recorded double-digit kills for UL Lafayette. Jessica Bartczyszyn led all players with 46 assists. Stacey Reilly (15) and Sydney Davis (13) posted double-digit digs.

Southeastern embarks on a three-match Southland Conference road trip before returning home to host Stephen F. Austin the Thursday of homecoming week (Oct. 15).
