Lady Lions Face Southern Miss In Road Contest

SLU looks to even season record

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team returns to the court Tuesday at 6 p.m., facing Southern Miss at Reed Green Coliseum.

Southeastern (1-2) looks to even its record after opening the 2015 season with three matches over the weekend in Columbia, S.C., at the Gamecock Invitational presented by Hyatt Place.

Live stats and streaming video of Tuesday's match will be provided by Southern Miss(3-0). Links are available on both the front page and volleyball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Landry Bullock (3.67 kills per set), Madi Odom (1.88 k/set), Parrie Hartley (1.50 k/set), Veronica Turk (1.44 k/set) and Tiffany Thomas (1.22 k/set) pace the Lady Lion offense under the direction of setters Mikayla Shippy (6.67 assists per set) and Haley Baker (5.00 a/set). Thomas' six service aces are tops on the squad.

Monica Ramon (2.89 digs per set), Brooke Balser (2.78 d/set), Odom (2.25 d/set) and Macey Stock (2.20 d/set) anchor the back row defensively. Shelby Devlin (0.67 blocks per set), Thomas (0.44 b/set), Rachael Bunn (0.38 b/set), Shippy (0.33 b/set) and Turk (0.33 b/set) lead Southeastern's front-line defensive effort.

The Golden Eagles swept through its own tournament, the Southern Miss Invitational, this past weekend with wins over Mercer, Southern and Nicholls State.

Stephany Purdue (4.73 k/set), Kylie Grandy (3.00 k/set), Rachel Johnson (1.82 k/set) and Sarah Bell (9.20 a/set) lead the Golden Eagle attack. Grandy's eight service aces are the most on the team.

Mary Pursell (3.09 d/set), Purdue (2.82 d/set), Natalie Druhan (2.80 d/set), Bell (2.50 d/set) and Grandy (2.00 d/set) are the top defenders along the back row. Elise Ames (1.89 b/set) is the key defender at the net for the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss has won both matches against the Lady Lions since the series resumed in 2013.

Southeastern returns to the University Center to host Eastern Washington, Sunday at 2 p.m., and Troy, Monday at 12 p.m., in a pair of Labor Day weekend matches.
