Lions Wrap Up Tulane Series In New Orleans

Game to be broadcast on Cox Sports TV

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Southeastern Louisiana wraps up its regular-season series with Tulane at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Cox Sports Television will carry the contest, the third this season between Southeastern (33-12) and the Green Wave (27-16). Tulane has taken the first two match ups, 5-4 in Hammond, Louisiana, on Feb. 18 and 15-2 in New Orleans on March 17.

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and through either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Fans can also keep up with the action through live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter. Links for audio and stats are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern is coming off a sweep at Houston Baptist in a three-game series. The Lions have won eight-straight conference games.

Jacob Seward (.379), the reigning Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, Kevin Carr (.344), Daniel Midyett (.343), Carson Crites (.317), Brett Hoffman (.313), Ryan Byers (.311) and Kennon Menard (.308) lead Southeastern at the plate.

Seward tops the Southland in batting average, runs scored (42), hits (64) and on-base percentage (.470). He carries a 22-game hitting streak into the contest, which is tied with Gavin Fingleson (1999) for the school record, and a reached-base streak of 34-consecutive games. Midyett's seven home runs and 39 RBIs lead the conference as well. Byers leads the team with 14 stolen bases.

The Lions are hitting a conference-best .307 as a team and have been successful on 66-of-91 stolen base attempts, also tops in the conference. The pitching staff has compiled a 3.60 ERA, fanning a Southland-leading 367 batters in 395 innings pitched.

Pat Cashman (3-4, 3.69), a junior right-hander, draws the starting assignment on the mound for Southeastern. Tulane will counter with righty Emerson Gibbs (3-2, 2.79).

Stephen Alemais leads Tulane in batting average (.335), doubles (nine) and stolen bases (21). Lex Kaplan has knocked a team-high five home runs and Hunter Williams' 25 RBIs lead the sqaud.

The Green Wave are hitting .249 as a team and have been successful on 40-of-62 stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has compiled a 2.81 ERA, fanning 299 batters in 383.2 innings of work.

Tulane swept a three-game American Athletic Conference series at Cincinnati over the weekend.

Southeastern returns to conference play Friday at 6 p.m. against Lamar in the opener of a three-game series. The Lions' magic number to clinch a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament is one – one win over the Cardinals will secure the defending Southland tournament champs a spot for the ninth-straight season.
