Ragin' Cajuns Snap Southeastern Win Streak

Lions, UL Lafayette split season series

Story Links

HAMMOND, La. – The University of Louisiana at Lafayette scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and its pitching staff shut down the Southeastern Louisiana bats as the Ragin' Cajuns picked up 7-2 win Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

UL Lafayette (24-15) snapped Southeastern's (30-12) four-game winning streak, earning a split of the season series.

Blake Trahan and Stefan Trosclair picked up a pair of first-inning singles, putting a pair on with one out. Cleanup hitter Tyler Girouard chopped the ball to second base, but it kicked off the glove of Carson Crites and Trahan came around to score from second. Trosclair scored on a ground out by Dylan Butler.

Southeastern stranded five runners in the first three innings as the Lions put runners on base, but failed to solve UL Lafayette starter Will Bacon (2-1).

The Ragin' Cajuns would build a 7-0 lead before Southeastern pushed across a pair of runs in the ninth.

Carson Crites and pinch hitter Webb Bobo both singled, and Ryan Byers drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. UL Lafayette brought in reliever Dylan Moore who promptly walked Jacob Seward to force in a run. Bobo scored the final run of the game on Julian Service's sacrifice fly to left field.

Bacon, the first of four Ragin' Cajun hurlers, picked up the win. Pat Cashman (3-4) suffered the loss despite allowing just one earned run in five innings of work.

Southeastern returns to conference play Friday at 2 p.m., traveling to Houston Baptist for the opener of a three-game series.
