NEW ORLEANS, La. – Cedric Jenkins challenged the school record for points Thursday at Lakefront Arena, but his career-high 39 points were not enough as Southeastern Louisiana fell to the University of New Orleans, 85-79, in Southland Conference play.
Jenkins' point total was the highest by a Southeastern (9-21, 6-11 Southland) player since Sam Bowie scored 39 for the Lions at Central Florida on January 13, 1996. The senior from LaPlace, Louisiana, fell four points shy of tying Jim McClain's school record of 43 points set in 1968.
Jimmie Duplessis added 10 points for the Lions, who shot 53.6 percent from the floor (30-of-56) as a team. Southeastern hit on 50 percent of its three-point attempts (6-of-12) and converted 13-of-20 from the free throw line (65 percent). Each team hauled in 29 rebounds.
Nate Frye led a balanced attack by the Privateers (10-16, 6-11 Southland), scoring 24 points. Kevin Hill (15), Kevin Brown (13), Christavious Gill (13) and Tevin Broyles (10) all scored in double digits.
The Privateers shot 51.8 percent from the floor (29-of-56), including 63.2 percent from three-point range (12-of-19). UNO converted 15-of-17 from the free throw line (88.2 percent).
