HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball squad fell, 75-69, to Nicholls State Saturday in Southland Conference play at the University Center.
Cedric Jenkins, a senior from LaPlace, Louisiana, scored 24 points to lead Southeastern (9-22, 6-12 Southland) in scoring, marking the fourth consecutive game he has garnered at least 20 points. With the win, Nicholls (10-18, 7-11 Southland) salvaged a split of the season series with the Lions.
Senior
DeVonte Upson turned in his sixth double-double of the season for Southeastern, scoring 18 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.
Daniel Grieves scored 16 points and senior
Onochie Ochie grabbed 10 rebounds.
Jimmie Duplessis handed out a career-high nine assists.
The Lions shot 44.8 percent from the floor (26-of-58), including 27.8 percent from 3-point range (5-of-18). Southeastern converted 12-of-20 from the free throw line (60 percent).
Ja'Dante' Frye led the Colonels with 21 points. Amin Torres (14) and Sam McBeath (11) joined him with double-digit points. McBeath led the squad with seven rebounds.
Nicholls shot 45.6 percent from the floor (26-of-57), including 44.4 percent from 3-point range (8-of-18). The Colonels converted 15-of-24 from the free throw line (62.5 percent) and out-rebounded Southeastern, 38-34.
The Lions will be the No. 8 seed in the Southland Conference Basketball Tournament that gets underway Wednesday at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas. Southeastern will face either McNeese State or Nicholls State at 5 p.m. in the opening game of the tournament.
Southeastern is selling all-tournament booklets for $60, which includes tickets for all of the men's and women's games in the tournament. Individual session tickets for each of the first three sessions of the men's and women's tournament are $15 with the championship game individual tickets on sale for $10. Southeastern students and children five and under will be admitted free.
