THIBODAUX, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team returns to Southland Conference action Friday at 6 p.m. against Nicholls State in the opener of a three-game series. The split series will be played Friday and Sunday (1 p.m.) in Thibodaux, and the middle game of the series is part of the Super Lion Saturday schedule of events (3 p.m.) in Hammond, Louisiana.
The games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and through either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Southeastern (20-7, 7-2 Southland), which has won five in-a-row and 15-of-18, rallied for a 7-6 win over in-state foe Louisiana-Monroe this past Tuesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
Kevin Carr (.371), the reigning Southland Conference Hitter of the Week,
Daniel Midyett (.356),
Brett Hoffman (.351) and
Kennon Menard (.350) lead Southeastern at the plate. Carr's batting average is the second-highest in the Southland. Midyett's six home runs and 26 runs scored lead the conference.
Ryan Byers owns a team-best 21 RBIs and 10 stolen bases.
The Lions are hitting a Southland-best .309 as a team and have been successful on 44-of-59 stolen base attempts, also tops in the conference. Southeastern is sixth nationally in walks (133), seventh in hits (287), eighth in on-base percentage (.413), ninth in runs scored (193) and 10th in stolen bases. The pitching staff has compiled a 4.04 ERA, fanning 230 batters in 236.1 innings pitched.
Tate Scioneaux (4-1, 5.03), a junior right-hander from Reserve, Louisiana, draws the series opening nod for the Lions. He matches up with fellow righty Marc Frazier (1-4, 4.94) for the Colonels.
The Lions will send junior right-hander
Jake Johnson (4-0, 1.96) to the mound on Super Lion Saturday against Nicholls left-hander Grant Borne (1-3, 1.19).
Southpaw
Kyle Cedotal (3-1, 1.56), a junior from Denham Springs, Louisiana, draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's series finale against Colonel right-hander Justin Sinibaldi (4-1, 1.42).
Kyle Reese leads Nicholls in batting average (.318) and doubles (7). Frazier's two home runs are a team best. Christian Correa and Tanner Vandevere each own a team-high 10 RBIs. Justin Holt's six stolen bases lead the squad.
The Colonels are hitting .234 as a team and have been successful on 20-of-32 stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has compiled a Southland-leading 2.19 ERA, fanning 175 batters in 213.2 innings of work.
Nicholls (13-10-1, 4-5 Southland), which defeated Louisiana-Lafayette this past Wednesday, has won back-to-back games.
Included in Super Lions Saturday's list of activities are the 3rd Annual Green and Gold 5K Run at 8 a.m., softball's 11 a.m. game versus Sam Houston State, a 12 p.m. tailgate hosted by Gus O'Krepki, and Lion football's Spring Game at 1 p.m.
In conjunction with the Southeastern Alumni Association, the baseball program will host its annual reunion as part of the Super Lion Saturday festivities. Former Lion players will be recognized on the field prior to the 3 p.m. game against Nicholls State, with special recognition given to 1975 squad that advanced to the Division II College World Series.

Fans can participate in the $3,000 ticket draw down that will be held on Super Lion Saturday. During Super Lion Saturday, the LAA will draw each ticket that has been purchased for the drawdown. Prizes will be given to the 1st ticket drawn ($500), the 25th ticket drawn ($100) the 50th ticket drawn ($125) and the 75th ticket drawn ($250).
The grand prize is $3,000. Once all tickets have been eliminated, all remaining participants will be brought to attention. Each remaining participant will be given the opportunity to split the grand prize with the other remaining participants. If one participant chooses not to split, another elimination ticket will be drawn. The final drawdown will continue until all remaining participants either decide to split the grand prize or one participant takes home the entire $3,000.
