Southeastern Hosts Alcorn State, Southern In Midweek Tilts

First pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday

HAMMOND, Louisiana – Coming off a weekend sweep of the Big 10's Northwestern University, the Southeastern Louisiana baseball team wraps up a five-game homestand this week at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field with games against Alcorn State and Southern University.

Southeastern (8-4) hosts Alcorn (4-6) Tuesday and Southern (1-5) on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. each night.

Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Fans can keep up with the action through live statistics or by following SLUathletics on Twitter. Streaming video is available on LionVision, Southeastern's subscription-based video stream. The Lions walked off with a doubleheader, and series, sweep of Northwestern this past Saturday on sophomore outfielder Ryan Byers' two-strike, two-out, two-run game-winning single.

Brett Hoffman (.412), Kevin Carr (.405), Carson Crites (.361), Byers (.356) and Daniel Midyett (.326) lead Southeastern at the plate. Midyett has homered twice. Byers owns a team-high 12 RBIs and six stolen bases. Carr and Midyett lead the team with 11 runs scored each.

The Lions are hitting .296 as a team and have been successful on 18-of-27 stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has compiled a 4.46 ERA, fanning 70 batters in 105 innings pitched.

Alcorn split a pair of games with Jackson State over the weekend. Last season the Lions defeated Alcorn, 20-4.

Collin Carroll (.448) and Earl Burl, Jr., (.333) lead the Braves at the plate. Carroll and Scotty Peavey have each homered twice, while Burl and Peavey each own a team-best nine RBIs. Charles Moses has swiped a team-high four bases.

Alcorn is hitting .233 as a team and has been successful on 28-of-39 stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has compiled a 6.51 ERA, fanning 59 batters in 83 innings pitched.

Southern dropped 2-of-3 games with Prairie View A&M this past weekend.

Marcus Tomlin (.412) and Phillip Williams (.316) are the Jaguars top hitters. Jose DeLa Torre, Tomlin, D. J. Wallace and Williams have each driven in three runs. Tyler Kirksey owns a team-high four stolen bases.

Southern is hitting .242 as a team and has been successful on 8-of-10 stolen base attempts. The pitching staff has compiled a 6.23 ERA, fanning 46 batters in 52 innings pitched.

Tuesday the Lions will send right-hander Kyle Keller (0-0, 14.75), a senior from New Orleans, Louisiana, to the mound against Alcorn and sophomore right-hander Jonathan Morales (0-1, 6.52).

Junior right-hander Pat Cashman (0-2, 3.86) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Wednesday's home game against Southern.

General admission tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 3-12). Children under the age of three are admitted free with a paying adult. Southeastern students are also admitted free with their university ID card.

Following the pair of midweek games, Southeastern travels to Incarnate Word to open Southland Conference play Friday in San Antonio, Texas.
