Lion Hoops Return Trips To Central Arkansas, Northwestern State

SLU hosted both schools earlier this season at the University Center

CONWAY, Ark. – The Southeastern Louisiana men's basketball team returns trips to Central Arkansas and Northwestern State for a pair of Southland Conference games beginning Saturday at the Farris Center.

Southeastern (9-18, 6-8 Southland) and the Bears (1-24, 1-13 Southland) tip at 4 p.m. Saturday as the second half of a doubleheader featuring the Lady Lion and Central Arkansas squads. The Lions and Northwestern State (16-10, 11-4 Southland) face off at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

All of the games can be heard in the Hammond, Louisiana, area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Live statistics will be provided for both contests, as will streaming video on LionVision (subscription required) for the Northwestern State game. Southeastern rallied from a game-high, seven-point deficit in the final 2:22 minutes of regulation to take a one-point lead with 18 seconds remaining this past Monday against the University of New Orleans, but the Privateers held on for a 74-73 Southland Conference win over the Lions at the University Center.

Zay Jackson (15.4 points per game), DeVonte Upson (10.3 ppg) and Onochie Ochie (8.4 ppg) lead Southeastern on offense. Upson is averaging a team-best 7.3 rebounds per contest, fifth most in the Southland Conference. Jackson is fourth in the Southland in assists with an average of 4.6 per game.

The Lions are shooting 45.5 percent from the floor (671-of-1,476), 31.7 percent from three-point range (166-of-523) and 65.6 percent on free throws (319-of-486). Southeastern is averaging 67.7 points and 32.8 rebounds per game.

Earlier this season (Feb. 10) Southeastern defeated Central Arkansas, 83-58, at the University Center. The Bears have dropped its last four games since.

Jordan Howard (15.9 ppg), Mike Martin (11.9 ppg) and Jake Zuilhof (9.6 ppg, 6.1 rpg) are the Bears top players.

Central Arkansas shoots 43.2 percent from the floor (561-of-1,299), 34.9 percent from three-point range (168-of-481) and 66.7 percent on free throws (343-of-514). The Bears are averaging 65.3 points and 31.2 rebounds per game.

Northwestern State has won five-of-six since defeating the Lions, 88-73, at the University Center on Jan. 31.

Zeek Woodley (22.7 ppg, 4.9 rpg), Jalan West (19.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg) and Marvin Frazier (8.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg) lead the Demons on the court.

Northwestern State shoots 46 percent from the floor (768-of-1,671), 34.1 percent from three-point range (199-of-583) and 75.2 percent on free throws (452-of-601). The Demons are averaging 84.1 points and 35.3 rebounds per game.

Southeastern wraps up the regular season with games March 5 at UNO and March 7 against Nicholls State at the University Center.
