HAMMOND, La. – The University of New Orleans outlasted a hard-charging Southeastern Louisiana hoops squad Monday as the Privateers held on for a 74-73 Southland Conference win at the University Center.

Southeastern (9-18, 6-8 Southland) rallied from a game-high, seven-point deficit in the final 2:22 minutes of regulation to take a one-point lead with 18 seconds remaining.

UNO (8-15, 4-10 Southland) went back on top on Tevin Broyles layup at the 0:15 mark, holding on for the win as Daniel Grieves missed a last-second layup.

The story for most of the game was the defensive play of DeVonte Upson. The senior from Amarillo, Texas, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds (seven defensive boards) and blocked a career-high seven shots. He also found a way to contribute 10 points to the Lions' offensive efforts.

Grieves and Zay Jackson each scored 15 points to top the Southeastern leaderboard. Onochie Ochie chipped in 11 points before fouling out with 2:22 remaining.

The Lions shot 49.2 percent from the floor (29-of-59), including 31.6 percent from three-point range (6-of-19). Southeastern converted 9-of-11 from the free throw line (81.8 percent).

Nate Frye led UNO in scoring, dropping in 17 points. Kevin Brown chipped in another 13 and Christavious Gill added 12 points. Kevin Hill hauled in a team-high seven rebounds.

The Privateers shot 39.1 percent from the floor (25-of-64), including 34.6 percent from three-point range (9-of-26). UNO converted 15-of-17 from the free throw line (88.2 percent) and out-rebounded the Lions, 40-32.

Southeastern embarks on a three-game road trip beginning with Saturday's 4 p.m. game at Central Arkansas. The home finale is scheduled for 7 p.m. on March 7 against Nicholls State.
