CONWAY, Ark. – Cedric Jenkins led four Lions in double-digit scoring with 21 points, but it wasn't enough as Southeastern Louisiana dropped a 74-72 decision to Central Arkansas in Southland Conference play at the Farris Center.
Southeastern (9-19, 6-9 Southland) led 33-31 at half, going up by as much as seven points in the second half, but the Bears (2-24, 2-13 Southland) put together a late charge for the victory.
Central Arkansas tied the game, 60-60, on a 3-pointer by Jordan Howard with 4:44 remaining in the game. The Lions went back up by two on a
Jimmie Duplessis jumper 31 seconds later.
Jake Zuilhof tied the game up again on a pair of free throws with 3:48 to play and the Bears took the lead for good 29 seconds later, 65-62, on a Mike Martin 3-pointer.
Inside of two minutes, Central Arkansas stretched its lead as high as six points before the Lions cut it down.
Duplessis scored a career-high 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists.
DeVonte Upson scored 15 and
Daniel Grieves added 10 points. Senior forward
Onochie Ochie hauled in a game-high nine rebounds.
The Lions shot 50 percent from the floor (30-of-60), including 18.2 percent from three-point range (2-of-11). Southeastern converted 10-of-14 from the free throw line (71.4 percent) and out-rebounded Central Arkansas, 35-29.
Howard and Martin each scored 17 points to lead the Bears. Mathieu Kamba scored 11 and Boo Milligan added 10 points. Zuilhof led Central Arkansas with seven rebounds.
The Bears shot 46.9 percent from the floor (23-of-49), including 40 percent from three-point range (8-of-20). Central Arkansas converted 20-of-31 from the free throw line (64.5 percent).
Southeastern and Northwestern State (17-10, 12-4 Southland) face off at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Prather Coliseum in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The Demons shut down Nicholls State for a 79-57 Southland win Saturday in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
