Lions Pick Up Second-Straight Conference Win

SLU downs Central Arkansas, 83-58

HAMMOND, La. – Five Lions scored in double digits and Southeastern Louisiana knocked off Central Arkansas, 83-58, in a Southland Conference contest at the University Center.

It was the second-consecutive win for Southeastern (7-16, 4-6 Southland) and sent UCA (1-20, 1-9 Southland) reeling to a Southland-high ninth conference loss of the season.

The Lions shot lights out in the first half, knocking down 70 percent of the shots they took on the way to a 48-25 halftime advantage.

Freshman Justin Lobell scored all of his career-high 11 points in the first half on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting, including making all three 3-pointers he attempted. Eight different Lions scored in the first half.

DeVonte Upson led all scorers with 17 points and also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Onochie Ochie scored 12 points. Jimmie Duplessis and Cedric Jenkins scored 10 points apiece. Zay Jackson added eight points, seven rebounds and tied a career-best with nine assists.

Dylon Maggio added eight points and Daniel Grieves chipped in seven more for the Lions.

Southeastern shot 63.6 percent from the floor (35-of-55), including 47.4 percent from three-point range (9-of-19). The Lions converted 4-of-6 from the free throw line (66.7 percent) and out-rebounded UCA, 27-23.

Jordan Howard led three Bears in double-digit scoring with 16 points. Mathieu Kamba scored 11 and Albert Christensson added 10 points. Kamba and Christensson each grabbed a team-high four rebounds.

UCA shot 51.1 percent from the floor (23-of-45), including 38.9 percent from three-point range (7-of-18). The Bears converted 4-of-13 from the free throw line (38.5 percent).

Southeastern once again returns to the road, traveling to in-state foes Nicholls State (Saturday) and McNeese State (Monday) for a pair of Southland contests.
