Game-Tying Shot Rattles Away At Florida A&M

Greenwood records first career double-double

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Dimi Cook's potential game-tying shot rattled away at the buzzer Tuesday as Southeastern Louisiana fell, 67-64, to Florida A&M at the Al Lawson Center.

The win over Southeastern (2-9) snapped a 3-game losing streak for FAMU (4-7).

"We went with a smaller lineup to try and pick up our defensive pressure," coach Jay Ladner said. "We were starting to do some good things, but made a poor decision with a shot-clock violation. They come down and we get called for a foul. They miss the free throw; we don't secure the rebound and they hit a turnaround three in the corner. We come back down and throw the ball to the post. He goes soft with it and they steal it away, go back down and hit another three. It winds up an 8-0 run on three possessions that steals the momentum away."

Mo Greenwood, a freshman from Sharon, Mississippi, turned in the first double-double of his career, scoring 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, both career highs. Zay Jackson, a senior from Hammond, Louisiana, scored 12 points and Joshua Filmore, a junior from Orlando, Florida, chipped in 11 points for the Lions.

Southeastern shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the floor, including 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from 3-point range. The Lions were 16-of-27 (59.3 percent) from the free throw line and out-rebounded the Rattlers, 36-34.

Craig Bowman led all players with 21 points. K'Ja Johnson (13 points, seven rebounds) and Malcolm Bernard (10 points, seven rebounds) joined Bowman in double-figure scoring.

FAMU shot 42.9 percent (21-of-49) from the floor, including 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from 3-point range. The Rattlers were 17-of-31 (54.8 percent) from the free throw line.

Southeastern, which plays again Monday at Georgia Tech, does not return to the University Center until after New Year's, hosting defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 4 to open conference play.
