Lions Fall At Georgia Tech

Loss is 1,000th in scholl history

ATLANTA, Ga. – A game of runs early, Georgia Tech inched away from Southeastern Louisiana in the first half Monday on its way to a 75-62 win over the Lions at McCamish Pavilion.

"I thought we played much better in the second half," Southeastern coach Jay Ladner said. "We needed to shorten the game up early and we couldn't have been more of a polar opposite. In the second half we did a better job of taking the shot we wanted to take and not the shot Georgia Tech wanted us to take."

Southeastern (2-10) sank the first basket of the game as Zay Jackson laid one in 1:14 into the contest, but it was a short-lived lead. The Yellow Jackets (8-3) put together an 11-2 run heading into the first media timeout.

The Lions clawed back within one, 13-12, by the second media timeout on a layup by Joshua Filmore at the 12:14 mark capping an 8-2 run by Southeastern. From that point forward Georgia Tech inched away to a halftime lead of 34-21.

Coming out firing in the second half, the Yellow Jackets converted their first six shots to take a 49-25 lead at the 16:27 mark on 3-pointer by Adam Smith.

Georgia Tech would expand its lead as high as 24 points in the half, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Filmore brought the Lions within 61-46 at the 7:23 mark. Yet another 3-pointer by Filmore brought Southeastern within 12, 65-53, at the 5:44 mark.

Filmore led the Lions with 20 points. Jackson and Norcross, Georgia, native Jordan Capps each contributed nine points. Jackson also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Freshman Mo Greenwood was once again a bright spot for Southeastern as the Sharon, Mississippi, native scored 16 points one game after recording the first double-double of his career.

Southeastern shot 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor, including 25 percent (4-of-16) from 3-point range. The Lions were 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from the free throw line.

Smith led the Yellow Jackets with 16 points and Marcus Georges-Hunt chipped in 14 points. Charles Mitchell (14 points, 15 rebounds) and James White (12 points, 13 rebounds) each recorded a double-double.

Georgia Tech shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the floor, including 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from 3-point range. The Yellow Jackets were 12-of-20 (60 percent) from the free throw line and out-rebounded Southeastern, 43-29.

The loss, fourth-straight for the Lions, was the 1,000th in program history.
