HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana senior defensive back
Harlan Miller added to his growing list of postseason accolades as a member of the STATS FCS All-America Team, which was released by STATS on Tuesday.
Miller, a Kentwood, Louisiana native, was named to the second team. His selection marked the second straight year that he earned All-America honors, as he was an Associated Press third team choice as a junior. Miller's selection marks the fourth straight season that the Lions have had at least one All-American.
Miller capped his Southeastern career with a standout senior season. On the way to becoming the first player in school history to earn first team All-Southland Conference for three straight seasons, Miller led the Lions with four interceptions and 10 pass breakups.
Miller, who joined Southeastern Athletics Hall of Fame members Huey Husser (1954-56, Gulf States Conference) and Ronnie Hornsby (1968-70, Gulf States Conference) as the only players in school history to earn first team all-conference in any league three straight years, finished fourth on the Lion career list with 11 interceptions. He was also named the first team All-Southland Conference punt returner after averaging 10.5 yards per punt return.
A finalist for the STATS FCS Defensive Player of the Year award, Miller earned his bachelor's degree and received his diploma at the university's commencement this past Saturday. His next step is to compete in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 30, 2016 in Mobile, Alabama. Miller is looking to be the first Lion drafted since current Atlanta Falcon defensive back Robert Alford in 2013.
Miller was one of eight Southland Conference players on the STATS FCS All-America Team. Lamar junior running back Kade Harrington, Sam Houston State senior offensive lineman Donald Jackson III and Incarnate Word senior linebacker Myke Tavarres were named to the first team.
Joining Miller on the second team was SHSU sophomore defensive lineman P.J. Hall and McNeese senior defensive back Wallace Scott. MSU senior offensive lineman Quinton Marsh and Northwestern State senior kicker Chris Moore were third team selections.
