HAMMOND, La. – Seven different Lions scored in double digits Tuesday as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Loyola New Orleans, 101-65, in a non-conference game at the University Center.
Mike Hawkins, a senior from Sharon, Mississippi, led all players with 17 points.
Jordan Capps, who turned in a double-double performance, and
Dimi Cook, a freshman from Gulfport, Mississippi, each chipped in 12 points for Southeastern (2-6).
"We had 27 assists tonight and
Zay Jackson had a career high with 12," coach
Jay Ladner said. "I thought he did a great job of quarterbacking and commanding the team. The number of assists is in direct correlation to our offensive output."
A well-balanced attack powered the Lions to a 55-36 halftime lead. Ten different players scored for Southeastern with
Keith Charleston, Hawkins and
Marlain Veal leading the way with eight points apiece prior to halftime.
Fifteen first-half assists by Southeastern was one shy of the game high for the season, established in the opener against TCU. The Lions shot 66.7 percent (20-for-30) from the floor in the first half.
Veal finished with a career-high 11 points. Charleston,
James Currington and
Mo Greenwood, a freshman from Raymond, Mississippi, each added 10 points. Capps grabbed a game-high 10 boards and
Dominic Nelson chipped in nine more for the Lions. Currington and Greenwood each hauled in seven rebounds.
Capps, Greenwood and Nelson, a junior from Harlem, New York, all established career highs in rebounding.
Southeastern shot 57.1 percent (36-of-63) from the floor, including 56 percent (14-of-25) from 3-point range. The Lions were 15-of-30 (50 percent) from the free throw line and won the rebounding battle, 49-27.
Tre'Von Jasmine and Ethan Turner each scored 12 points to pace the Wolfpack attack. Jalen Gray added 11 and Nate Pierre chipped in 10 points. Gray and Turner each hauled in a team-high five rebounds.
Loyola shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the floor, including 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3-point range. The Wolfpack was 19-of-30 (63.3 percent) from the free throw line.
"It's good to get back home, but it's also good to get back in the win column," Ladner said. "We just need to continue to improve."
