Heart Of A Lion Fall World Series Split After Two Games

Game Three slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, weather pending

HAMMOND, La. – Two games into the annual Heart of a Lion Fall World Series at Southeastern Louisiana the series is split evenly between the Inglorious BASEterds and the Sons of Pitches.

So far the visiting team has won both games. The Inglorious BASEterds took Game One with some offensive work Thursday against the bullpen for a 7-5 win. Friday the Sons of Pitches took advantage of a throwing error in the ninth inning to score a pair of unearned runs in a 4-2 win.

"We've competed really well the last two days," Riser said. "You see some veterans stepping up, some new guys stepping up. It's the Fall World Series. Payton Robinson, Derrick Mount and Cliff Hurst competed in a situation where it was tight and there was a lot of pressure. The way they handled it makes for a bright future come springtime."

First pitch for Game Three is slated for 1 p.m. Saturday, weather pending. The Halloween festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a home run derby. Batting practice, in costume, will follow. A family-friendly atmosphere with candy and treats will provide a safe Trick-or-Treat alternative leading up to the first pitch.

Game Four, slated for Monday, and Wednesday's final game will both begin at 6 p.m.

Admission is free to all Heart of a Lion Fall World Series games at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Live stats and streaming video (subscription-based) will be available for Monday's game only. Links for both will be available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

GAME ONE - Inglorious BASEterds 7, Sons of Pitches 5
The Inglorious BASEterds touched up the Sons of Pitches bullpen in the middle innings Thursday for a 7-5 win in Game One of the Heart of a Lion Fall World Series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Left-handers Domenick Carlini (1-0) and Kyle Cedotal each turned in solid 5-inning starts in Thursday's Game One. Carlini allowed a pair of runs on four hits, fanning six batters without allowing a walk to earn the win for the Inglorious BASEterds. Freshman right-hander Corey Gaconi recorded the final two outs of the game to earn the save.

Cedotal, who did not factor in the decision, allowed just one run on four hits. The senior from Denham Springs, Louisiana, walked one batter, hit one and fanned six.

Seven different players hit safely for the Inglorious BASEterds, led by Jameson Fisher's 2-for-4 night. Fisher also stole a base after drawing a walk in the ninth inning.

Taylor Schwaner (2-for-3), Daniel Midyett (2-for-5) and Cedotal (2-for-4) all recorded multiple hits for the Sons of Pitches. Schwaner doubled, knocked an RBI single and drew a walk. Cedotal also scored a pair of runs.

Jameson Fisher led off the inning with a single to left and moved up when the left fielder bobbled the ball. Sam Roberson walked to put a pair on. With one out, Fisher and Roberson executed a double steal and then both would eventually come home to score on Nico Cuccia's single to right field.

Starting pitchers Kade Granier and Pat Cashman both allowed a pair of runs in four innings of work, but this time around it was the bullpens that kept the game close.
