Southeastern Squelches Lady Demon Comeback Attempt, Claims Second Straight

Lady Lions moved into fourth place in Southland

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball squad put down a late comeback attempt by Northwestern State at the University Center, 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23, Saturday to claim its second-straight win in Southland Conference play.

Southeastern (10-11, 4-3 Southland) built the first of several large leads in the second set, going up by seven at a couple different stages before a Lady Demon attack error finished out the set.

Northwestern State (5-18, 3-7 Southland) rallied from a six-point deficit in the third set, tying thing up 18-18, and pulled away in the latter stages.

In the fourth set, Southeastern jumped out to a commanding six-point lead again. The Lady Demons rallied to tie up the set once again, 20-20, but kills by Landry Bullock and Parrie Hartley helped wrap up the match.

Bullock, Sarah Friedman and Hartley each tallied 14 kills to pace the Lady Lions offense while Mikayla Shippy dished out 46 assists. Brooke Balser led all players with 20 digs and Hartley, who posted her second-straight double-double performance, contributed 14 digs for Southeastern.

Glynna Johnson led all players with 17 kills. Lauren Agan added another 11 for the Lady Demon atttack. Natalie Jaegar handed out 38 assists. Bailey Martin recorded 19 digs and Channing Burleson chipped in an additional 12 for Northwestern State.

Southeastern heads out to Texas this coming week for conference matches at Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian.
