Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Lions, Sam Houston play to 0-0 tie

Sabadash records seventh shutout of 2015

HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Southeastern's Southland Conference soccer match at Sam Houston State lived up to its pregame expectations Friday night as the league's top two defensive teams played to a 0-0 tie through two overtime periods.

The teams combined for 32 shots, including 13 on goal, but couldn't find the net. Hope Sabadash made five saves in recording her Southland-leading seventh shutout for Southeastern (9-3-2, 4-2-1). Kylie Hambleton had eight saves for Sam Houston (7-5-2, 4-2-1).

"We created chances and were unable to finish great opportunities we created in front of the goal," Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. "It was a game between two good teams tonight. Both keepers played well. We created several opportunities to give ourselves that one advantage we had to finish and couldn't find the net."

Southeastern concludes its two-game road trip at Southland-leading Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

After Hambleton stopped a Vera attempt with just under three minutes left in the half, Micaela Birt missed wide for Sam Houston at 44:36.

"I thought the whole back line had a really good night," Hornbuckle said. "Christiana (Cutura), Lauren (Lorentz), Maddie (Allen). We were dangerous in the attack which was extremely encouraging but unfortunately soccer can be where you play extremely well and not come up with a goal."
