NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team will face off against three teams in the next three days, including host Tulane at 7 p.m. Thursday, in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic at Devlin Fieldhouse.
Southeastern (2-5) will also match up with Florida Atlantic (5-2), for the second-consecutive season, Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Howard (3-5) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Live stats, courtesy Tulane, will be provided for all three of the Lady Lions' matches and a video stream of Thursday's contest against the Green Wave (0-6) is also available.
SLU dropped all three matches it played this past weekend at the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Lady Lions offense is led by
Parrie Hartley (3.00 kills per set),
Tiffany Thomas (2.42 k/set),
Veronica Turk (1.70 k/set) and
Mikayla Shippy (9.42 assists per set). Hartley and Shippy also own the most service aces (five) on the squad.
Turk (0.96 blocks per set) has teamed with
Rachael Bunn (0.94 b/set) to average nearly one block per set.
Morgan Todd (4.52 digs per set),
Brooke Balser (2.52 d/set) and
Elizabeth Ramee (1.94 d/set) anchor the back row for Southeastern.
Since winning its first set of the season, Tulane has dropped 18-straight sets over the span of six matches.
Tea Juric (3.67 k/set), Sarah Ray (3.05 k/set) and Lauren Etta (7.20 a/set) pace a Green Wave offensive effort that has recorded a .089 attack percentage. Grace Weaver (3.79 d/set), Juric (3.00 d/set), Amy Lanski (2.50 d/set), Makenzie Frieden (2.50 d/set) and Ray (2.26 d/set) are key components of Tulane's defense.
Florida Atlantic, which swept past the Lady Lions to open the 2013 regular season, has won its last three matches.
The Owls have five players averaging more than two kills per set this season, including Brittney Brown (2.46 k/set), Kristina Rankovic (2.29 k/set), Kristi Tekavec (2.20 k/set), Brianne Wojciakowski (2.10 k/set) and Katarina Stepanovic (2.05 k/set).
Nathalie Roasado (3.54 d/set) and Liene Mellupe (3.23 d/set) are FAU's top defenders.
Howard defeated Loyola (Maryland) in three sets Tuesday night, snapping a three-match losing streak.
Khaila Donaldson (3.68 k/set), Katherine Broussard (2.00 k/set) and Stephanie Shultis (8.72 a/set) lead the Lady Bison offense. Broussard (3.56 d/set), Allyson Lods (3.40 d/set), Donaldson (3.04 d/set) and Morgan Marlbrough (2.68 d/set) are the top defenders for Howard.
Southeastern returns to the University Center, hosting Southern Miss, Tuesday at 6 p.m.
