MONROE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana baseball team fell in a tight, 3-2, game Sunday to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, dropping the series to the Warhawks two games to one.

Southeastern (7-4) could muster only three hits off ULM (6-6) starter Alex Hermeling, but one of those was the first home run of freshman Brooks Morse's career. The game featured three solo homers, a pair by Warhawk right fielder Chet Simoneaux.

ULM took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after Simoneaux homered to left center to open the inning off Lion starting pitcher Kyle Keller. The Warhawks would load the bases after the hit, but failed to produce another run until the sixth.

With one out in the fifth, Morse tied the game for Southeastern with his solo shot to left center off Hermeling.

The Lions came back with another run in the sixth to take a short-lived, 2-1, lead. Kyle Cedotal walked to lead off the inning and stole second with one out. Brett Hoffman knocked a two-out single through the left side of the infield to plate Cedotal, picking up his team-leading 16th RBI of the season.

Simoneaux touched up Keller a second time to tie the game, homering to left center with one out in the sixth.

In the seventh, ULM catcher Dalton Todd drew a leadoff walk from reliever John Gremillion (0-1) and was sacrificed to second by Josh Faciane. Center fielder Dalton Herrington followed with a one-out single through the left side of the infield to drive home Todd and give the Warhawks the lead once again.

Keller, who did not receive a decision, allowed just two runs on five hits in six innings of work. He walked one and fanned three. Gremillion was handed the loss, surrendering one run in his one inning of relief. Dylan Hills worked a scoreless eighth for the Lions.

ULM's Carey Taylor (1-1) earned the win with three hitless innings of scoreless relief.

Southeastern wraps up its current four-game road trip Wednesday at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The can can be heard in the Hammond area on Southeastern's own 90.9 FM KSLU.
